[PL021] _ SOOK – Magnetic Anomaly EP

SOOK:
[PL021] _ SOOK – Magnetic Anomaly EP
MAGNETIC ANOMALY EP
Never Knows Best // The Wren (w/ Actuator) // Magnetic Anomaly (w/ Actuator) // Seek And Dream // Never Knows Best - Boot Remix

Sydney’s Sook was an up-and-comer. No more. The Magnetic Anomaly EP establishes him as one to reckon with in the neuro-tinged vaults of dark, moody bass music. The EP picks up where his highly regarded remix of ‘The Trancening’ (available on PL013 – Divergent Paths Vol.1 EP) left off last year: sci-fi atmospheres and bleak visions of the future reign supreme in this latest chapter to the Paradise Lost story. These five tracks are built upon various rhythmic configurations, but all of them will delight fans of the darker end of the spectrum.

Title track ‘Magnetic Anomaly’ features Actuator and utilizes epic arpeggios and a 4-by-4 beat foundation to take us on a fast-paced journey in the original Sook spinner hovercar. ‘Never Knows Best’ is a broken beat workout with blasting techno stabs and gets the remix lick by P.L. favorite Boot, who turns it into an introspective garage-influenced stepper. ‘The Wren’ again features Actuator in a deadly half-step plodder with a razor-sharp bassline and a nightmarish but highly catchy lead melody, and ‘Seek and Dream’ boldly shows off Sook’s expert bassline manipulation skills to produce a bleak but beautiful teched-out monster.

Each of these tracks combines delicate percussion and atmospheric textures with heavy mid-bass and true storytelling songwriting – here’s to Australia’s finest! Expect more from Down Under later in the year, but for now, digest this if you dare…

[PL018] _ BISWEED – Ghosts & Ghouls EP

BISWEED:
[PL018] _ BISWEED – Ghosts & Ghouls EP
Ghosts & Ghouls EP
Ghosts // Ghouls // Destruction // Deadly RnB

Paradise Lost Recordings is delighted to present the “Ghosts and Ghouls EP” from Estonian sensation Bisweed. Being championed by Mala among others across the globe, these tunes are heads-down cerebrum-infecting business firmly locked in the dungeons of deep, dark, minimalistic Dubstep.

“Ghosts” starts us off, and does so with abandon. Bisweed utilizes only the bare necessities to make a truly powerful, haunting tune with massive floor impact. ”Ghouls” follows up with eerie pads and more signature walking subbassline madness, exploring the dark corners of the musical underworld. ”Deadly R&B” gives us a bit more of an old skool junglist/808 workout while ”Destruction” showcases Bisweed‘s skills with unusual percussion sounds and sampled/looped grooves. Watch the second drop on this minimal future grime banger which serves up yet another heavy helping of dark bass bliss.

This kind of music wouldn’t sound out-of-place in a mad scientist’s laboratory, but we feel it is best used to devastate the dancefloors of this Earth. Crisp production, post-junglist percussion and nausea-inducing low-end define the sound that is Bisweed, and this is only Chapter 1 of the Ghost story…

[PL019] _ ACTRAISER – Survival Horror EP

ACTRAISER:
[PL019] _ ACTRAISER – Survival Horror EP
Survival Horror EP
Survival Horror // Kusagari // It's A Trap // Hydorah

Bristol’s Actraiser has been flying under the radar this year, which is hard to believe considering the magnitude of tunes he’s been coming up with in 2011. With the Survival Horror EP, Actraiser breaks out and finishes the year with probably his most mature, well-rounded work to date.

The title track Survival Horror is a breathtaking trip to the more sensual side of 140BPM, incorporating sax riffs and beautiful atmospheric pads with a smidgeon of darkness. Kusagari follows suit with a future garage workout building on the atmospheric thickness of the lead tune but especially showcasing Actraiser‘s talent for finding just the right acoustic samples for every track. Beautiful and soulful are the best ways to describe this sound. It’s A Trap flips the script altogether and brings in the booming, tribal 4×4 bass that Actraiser has been favoring as of late, providing a tune that’s certain to heat up the dancefloor while keeping things firmly footed on the darkside. A favorite dub of a host of DJs around the world this year, this one’s a surefire hit. We round things off with Hydorah, a dark and dirty future-garage-meets-broken-beat number with a filtered 2-step beat and heavy bass oozing out of your speakers like heavy molasses.

Paradise Lost is proud to present to you the Survival Horror EP by Actraiser, whose bold and confident sound is sure to capture the attention of the bass music community.

[PL017] _ DIVERGENT PATHS Vol.2 feat. TKR, CHEWIE, VANDERA & LOSTLOJIC

Paradise Lost presents:
[PL017] _ DIVERGENT PATHS Vol.2 feat. TKR, CHEWIE, VANDERA & LOSTLOJIC
DIVERGENT PATHS Vol.2
TKR - Cluster Bomb // Chewie - Cuttin // Vandera & Lostlojic - Volt

The second volume in our series of epic dancefloor releases, Divergent Paths Vol.2 sees TKR, Vandera & Lostlojic, and man-of-the-moment Chewie taking the reigns. TKR starts us off with ‘Cluster Bomb’ and brings the deepness. His combination of strings, neuro pads and tech stabs is a treat for the senses (plus home listening) and a great tool for DJs looking to keep things on the darkside but liven up the crowd at the same time. Chewie steps up on his initial Paradise Lost release with ‘Cuttin’, constructing a science fiction swing beat with ominous pads and a heavy build up in tension, which is cut like a knife by his razor sharp basswork. This is the first in a line of highly anticipated Chewie tracks on Paradise Lost which will see him make a permanent mark on Dubstep in 2011 and beyond. Vandera and Lostlojic finish things up on this dense release by bringing the fire with their Amen-heavy nugget ‘Volt’. This track is of epic proportions and you should be on the lookout for big things from these guys in the coming year. Paradise Lost, reppin’ worldwide and from strength to strength, yet again…

[PL016] _ TKR – FUTURE UNKNOWN EP

Paradise Lost presents:
[PL016] _ TKR – FUTURE UNKNOWN EP
TKR - Future Unknown EP
TKR - Future Unknown // TKR - Future Unknown - Royalston Remix // TKR - Breath // TKR - Breath - Twisted's Flying Carpet Remix

TKR graces us with two slabs of electronic perfection on his inaugural Paradise Lost artist EP. The title track ‘Future Unknown’ is a forward-thinking example of TKR’s production talents at 170bpm – blending melodies with his precision drums and ominous, yet uplifting pads. We’ve enlisted Australia’s most deadly Hospital/Med School ninja – Royalston – for a remix which is both delicate and ferocious. He gradually turns up the “Epic” dial throughout this experiment in future funk and his sinister reeces and crisp production bring this track to a level we didn’t think possible. This remix is already a hit, enjoys support by a number of the DNB elite, and is featured on a Hospital Records CD mixed by Royalston himself.

The flipside sees TKR in more familiar territory around 140bpm. ‘Breath’ is a journey through space – a wall-of-sub bassline compliments space-age drum programming and warped snares, creating a 4-dimensional sound experiment with an Arabic tinge that will be a favorite of those leaning towards the more deep and abstract end of the Dubstep continuum. Twisted, who has a Paradise Lost artist EP of his own coming up, takes ‘Breath’ in a more rolling direction with the bassline, adds in some bouncey, funky signature drums, but keeps the feel deep and complex in his aptly titled Flying Carpet Remix. Whether it’s DNB, Halfstep or Dubstep you’re after, there’s a version on this release for you. So pick your poison and Paradise Lost shall deliver!

[PL015] _ Dubtek & The SubDivision – MECCA EP

DUBTEK & THE SUBDIVISION -
[PL015] _ Dubtek & The SubDivision – MECCA EP
MECCA EP
Dubtek & The SubDivision - Mecca // Dubtek & The SubDivision - Mecca - Gravity Remix // The SubDivision & Dubtek - The Perfect Storm

Dark and moody vibes are the common theme on the Mecca EP which teams The SubDivision with Seattle’s Dubtek on a journey to the darkside. The title track, Mecca, utilizes mystical atmospheres, huge throbbing subbass and crisp percussion to deliver a bleak and highly meditative vibe. Gravity graces us with his Mecca Remix and impresses with his mastery of bassline science and percussive mayhem – he transitions effortlessly from a drawn-out ambient intro to fierce basswork and tons of tube reverb, delivering a real treat for the senses. The Perfect Storm is utterly sinister as well – intricate percussion structures, deep subbass and razor sharp disharmonic synthwork combine to form an epic monster of a track. It is also the logical continuation of the song The Calm Before The Storm which is available to download for free from our webpage.

Bass, space and pace are the guiding principles behind the Mecca EP, dark and brooding is the mood. This is head-down, lights-out business sure to darken up any dance – get ready!

[PL014] _ Vesicle – WE ARE LOST EP

Paradise Lost presents: VESICLE -
[PL014] _ Vesicle – WE ARE LOST EP
WE ARE LOST EP
Vesicle - We Are Lost // Vesicle - Smoke Curls // Vesicle - Mythos // Vesicle - Redemption

A true showcase of Vesicle’s creativity, versatility and dark bassline science, the We Are Lost EP contains 4 deep and dark Dubstep excursions and makes a strong case for this Finnish duo’s inclusion among the genre’s best and brightest of the new generation of sound visionaries. The title track ‘We Are Lost’ is a beautiful, dark anthem combining haunting vocals with live guitars, intricate melodies, precision drum programming and fat slabs of bass. The result is a well-rounded, catchy and melancholic masterpiece. ‘Smoke curls’ switches up the program, engulfing the listener in deliberately lo-fi sound fx and percussion whilst conjuring up deeply emotional, melodic bliss by juxtaposing a dusty piano with a soaring, distorted, filtered leadline of 8-bit chiptune charme. Destined to become a dark breakstep anthem, ‘Mythos’ harks back to the late 90′s Metalheadz sound with its epic synthlines, eery vocals and massive, growling Reece bass constructions. ‘Redemption’ completes this vicious circle with a journey to the depths of darkness, attesting to Vesicle’s true mastery of uniquely filthy bassline construction on this stripped-down vision of despair.

To ensure that this EP looks as good as it sounds, the vinyl release features stunning, limited-edition full sleeve artwork!

[PL013] _ Divergent Paths Vol.1

Paradise Lost presents:
[PL013] _ Divergent Paths Vol.1
DIVERGENT PATHS Vol.1
Dubtek ft. Droid Sector & Boot - The Trancening (Sook Remix) // Boot - No Safe Place // J.Nitrous - Lost On Earth

Volume 1 of Paradise Lost’s new series of Various Artist Eps ‘Divergent Paths’ is a showcase of Australia’s premier Dubstep pioneers who have made a name for themselves with their techy and epic production styles. The EP starts off with Sook, who takes up remix duties on Dubtek, Boot and Droid Sector’s anthem ‘The Trancening’ which was previously released on the Dubtek EP (PL010). Sook morphs the original into a gargantuan, tech-stepping, beastly stomper of a track guaranteed to vitalize the dance. Boot follows it up with a more subtle, but equally epic production – ‘No Safe Place’ – which meshes slick synth basslines with intricate breakbeat science, resulting in unadulterated dancefloor mayhem. Last but not least, J.Nitrous makes his Paradise Lost debut with ‘Lost on Earth’, and he’s not lost at all in declaring his intentions to make a massive impact with a huge, in-your-face bassline, progressive arpeggio synth action and complex, rolling drumwork reminiscent of some death metal. This tune climaxes in a ridiculous second drop that simply lays waste to all.

A perfect start to the new Paradise Lost series ‘Divergent Paths’, these tracks will be any DJ’s remedy for a jaded and disinterested dancefloor!

[PL012] _ The SubDivision – OPEN YOUR EYES EP

The SubDivision -
[PL012] _ The SubDivision – OPEN YOUR EYES EP
Open Your Eyes EP
The SubDivision - Open Your Eyes // The SubDivision - Open Your Eyes (501 Remix) // The SubDivision - Open Your Eyes (HLZ Remix)

The SubDivision return home to Paradise Lost with the Open Your Eyes EP: epic vibes, hypnotic bass work, and complex programming manifest themselves as what might be considered their best work to date, and surely a production which defines their unique style for building cinematic tracks of epic proportions. The structure is trademark TSD: a beautifully drawn-out breakdown compliments the progressively building tension, leading to a thunderous climax toward the end. This tune is more of a journey than simply a DJ tool (although it’s a treat to mix with), and DJs such as Bunzer0, Djunya, 501 and Claw have used it to devastating effect in the mix.

For variations on the Open Your Eyes theme, Finnish mercenary 501 was brought in and produces a devastating, sinister, half-stepping remix monster. This version utterly destroys the dancefloor in usual 501 fashion, but adds a twist of darkness. HLZ, whose work for Drum and Bass labels Chronic, Soul:R and Liquid V Recordings has brought him much acclaim, was recruited to offer up his own unique take on Dubstep for a second variation on the original. He uses signature bassline science combined with smacking, dancefloor-friendly drums, then tosses in an epic breakdown-buildup combination followed by a monumental drop that’s sure to get the dance jumping.

Variety truly is the spice of life, and Paradise Lost Recordings once again seeks to bring that point home with the Open Your Eyes EP. Buy this EP on 12″ vinyl right now in all good shops, or in digital format by Jan. 31st.

[PL011] _ SAVIOUR EP

[PL011] _ SAVIOUR EP
SAVIOUR EP
Saviour - Burst Into Fire // Saviour - Burst Into Fire (Dubtek & Boot Remix) // Saviour - Taedium Vitae

‘Burst Into Fire’ – the title track from Belgium’s Saviour – has been busting up dancefloors around the world (in a very deep, good way!) for many months. We can’t find one Dubstep DJ who doesn’t like this tune. Not one. This virtually guarantees that you’ll find this sci-fi influenced piece of future funk contagious. It’s all about the bass and the Space in this one, and Saviour serves both up in monstrous proportions.

For added flavor we hand the reins over to producers-of-the-moment Dubtek and Boot for the remix treatment and they do not disappoint, adding their trademark techy styles and a more LFO’d bassline to produce a version which pays considerable respect to the original but also caters to the more neuro-loving crowd.

On the final track, Saviour goes decidedly dancefloor with the sophisticated-sounding ‘Taedium Vitae’. Progressive pads meet ravey stabs and a growling bassline on this moody number which will soon bring the business to a dancefloor near you. Trust us – this is Dubstep for the discerning listener/DJ. [PL010] _ DUBTEK EP

[PL010] _ DUBTEK EP
DUBTEK EP
Dubtek ft. Droid Sector & Boot - The Trancening // Dubtek ft. Mouch - Visionary // Dubtek - Smoke

Paradise Lost Recordings is proud to present the first proper vinyl EP of Seattle’s Dubtek: a 3-track release in which he teams up with Australia’s finest, Droid Sector and Boot, as well as Italy’s Mouch, to showcase three distinctive sounds.

The lead track and a three-way collaboration, ‘The Trancening’, brings together influences from progressive house and trance with proper bass science to produce a sub-heavy, tranced-up killer which will keep the most traditional dubstep fan satisfied while at the same time causing those more up for epic, progressive sounds to break out their glowsticks (well, we hope just in spirit!). These three accomplished producers demonstrate both their technical prowess in the studio and their talents for stirring up a frenzy on the dancefloor. The second drop just kills it!

On the flip, Dubtek offers up two deeper tracks that are smooth as butter. He teams up with Mouch from Venice, Italy to bring us ‘Visionary’, a brilliant, calculated dancefloor builder with dreamy arpeggios and ice-cold sci-fi fx and atmospherics – this tune has received plays from DJs all across the globe. ‘Smoke’ works on a number of different levels, bringing a beautifully constructed smooth-as-silk bassline to compliment melodic atmospherics and a garage-inspired vocal hook, all of which is sure to bring smiles to those on the dancefloor.

[PL009] _ The SubDivision – INTERPRETAZIONI Remix EP feat. Rogue Star, Lone Wolf, Djunya, Vesicle
INTERPRETAZIONI EP
TSD - Devil's Kiss (ROGUE STAR's Hell's Gate Remix) // TSD - The Messenger (LONE WOLF Remix) // TSD - Elephant Walk (DJUNYA Remix) // TSD - The Rose (VESICLE Remix)

The SubDivision round up some of some of dubstep’s heaviest and dirtiest mercenaries for the latest Paradise Lost offering of 4 remixes on the Interpretazioni EP. Roguestar starts things off with what can only be considered an epic remix of an already epic track, Devil’s Kiss. Full throttle from the start and straddling the line between dubstep and breakstep, this track will appeal to anyone needing to destroy the floor at 3AM. Lonewolf goes dirt for his remix of The Messenger, bringing the heat with his notorious filthy style, incorporating heavy synths with nasty breaks. On the flip, Djunya takes things to the dark side of dub, with his re-take on the bizzarely spacey Elephant Walk. Currently a favorite of DJs pushing the deeper sounds, Djunya brings in heavy reverbs, 8-bit stabs, and his trademark bassline business to produce a brilliant and complex sound. Vesicle round off the release with what might be their heaviest production yet on the remix of The Rose.Junglist vibes and bass terrorism combine to produce devastating material showing off the impressive skills of these up-and-comers from Finland. [PL008] _ The SubDivision – ELEPHANT WALK EP

THE SUBDIVISION -
[PL008] _ The SubDivision – ELEPHANT WALK EP
ELEPHANT WALK EP
TSD - Elephant Walk // TSD - Elephant Walk (DROID SECTOR Remix) // TSD - The Rose

What is an Elephant Walk? It’s a stomping party by large mammals who take no shit from anyone. The original Elephant Walk track by The SubDivision is a minimal stomper, rounded out by a huge, simple subbass and 8-bit atmospheric effects built to wake the dancefloor from its stupor by way of its original sound. Something completely different here, actually one of the first songs produces by The SubDivision before they even started listening to dubstep, revisited here to bring it up-to-date! Long-awaited by those who have heard it, the original has been rinsed by DJs around the globe, from Djunya in San Francisco (his remix of the track coming available on PL009 vinyl) to BunZero in Europe. Australia’s man of the moment, and current Tech Itch favorite, Droid Sector, ascending to prominence through hard work and ruff tracks, takes the reigns for the remix here, working his dark but ravey influences on the track but keeping to the original atmosphere. Big remix, big remixer. Watch out for him in 2010, much to come from this man from Perth, including future releases on Paradise Lost! The Rose, last but not least, shows off The SubDivision’s talents from both the softer, melodic side of the dubstep genre to the harder rave style. As goes the song, “It’s death that gives the world its point, we love a rose because we know it will soon be gone”…. deepness, and you’ll feel this one. Beauty with thorns, this is the best way to describe this tune. Take the ride with us on PL008, The Elephant Walk EP from The SubDivision.

[PL007] _ The SubDivision – THE LUST EP

THE SUBDIVISION -
[PL007] _ The SubDivision – THE LUST EP
LUST EP
TSD - Lust // TSD - Your Mom (Dirty Tempo Switchup Mix)

Another explosive release from Paradise Lost Recordings, featuring label-heads, The SubDivision. These two tunes go in a bit of a different direction from the previous sound of the label, taking it a bit more jump-up and in your face, following on the success of similar styled tunes “Piranha” and “Le Mani Su” from The SubDivision which they released on True Tiger and Terminal Dusk. “Your Mom” is simply a party tune. Keep an eye out on the mix, though, as we jump from jump-up dubstep tempo to jump-up DNB tempo in the middle and then back down. A crowd pleaser, tried and tested. Trust. Your Mom would be proud to hear you drop this one at the party… “Lust” is a bit of a dirty number incorporating sleazy basslines with a bit of a futuristic porn sound. If there was a movie similar to Bladerunner with a hate-sex scene, this might just be the tune to lay down on that! Overdriven drums, filthy synths and XXX vocal samples make this one perfect for late night, when everyone is trying their best (worst) to hook up on the floor!

EXCISION vs. TSD - Hypothermic // EXCISION vs. TSD - Hypothermic (KOMONAZMUK ft. PLAYER1 Remix) // EXCISION vs. TSD - Titanium

CHECK THIS MUTHAF**KIN’ HYPOTHERMIC SH*T OUT……….. Red-hot hitman Excision meets Paradise Lost labelheads The SubDivision on this long-awaited deep, dark funk release, the Hypothermic EP. Hypothermic brings gangsta vocal licks together with the baddest of basslines and slick percussion which combine to sickening effect to devastate the dancefloor. Battered on dubplate by DJs across the spectrum, from Headhunter to Djunya to SPL and the list goes on. Flipside contains the equally sick, but totally different Hypothermic RMX, from the likes of Bristol’s finest, Komonazmuk, who together with Player1 mutates the tune into a feast of warped and spaced-out basslines which give a different feeling but the same effect, devastation. This one has been cut on dub by dubstep dons throughout the UK and you will no doubt have heard this one at your favorite venue. Winding up the release is the ultradark Titanium, which features heavy guitar riffs and bleak pads, making you want to punch your mother in the stomach. One for the hardcore and headstrong.
